The magnolia dye has come out of the dye bath and its a green/khaki sort of colour. Not necessarily one of my favorite dyes but certainly not just beige.

I didn’t put extra beads in this dye bath because I assumed there wouldn’t have been enough colour but I think actually some of them would have turned out quite nice, going by the single bead samples I do for each mordant and modifier combination I put in.

Into each dye bath, I put 25 tiny 2g skeins which, through using a combination of different mordants and modifiers, I get 25 different colours from the one dye bath.

Then I tend to throw in 5 15g skeins just to give me dyed yarn to knit with after so that I don’t just end up with samples. It’s usually enough to knit a pair of socks with.

Once the magnolia bark was out the cherry bast was in, and again I’m dyeing this with the yarn at the same time.

The bark is in big enough pieces that I won’t spend hours picking plant matter off my dyed yarn like I do if I put the yarn in with leaves or tiny flower heads.

I have put extra beads in again this time as I am expecting a good colour from the cherry.

It turns out that spiralling 5 colours at once is not my favourite type of knitting at the moment. I am hoping to finish some socks by the weekend so I’ve swapped to finishing some brown commercial-dyed yarn that I started a pair of socks with ages ago and got sidetracked from.

It will be good to get them finished and then I can go back to the spiral pair.
