After some debate, aka the realisation that I had no more drying space left, I did end up leaving the yarn in the walnut dye bath for most of the rest of day three.
I took it out before dinner, rinsed it out and it’s now drying on the rack. I also modified some of the mini skeins with citric acid, washing soda, copper and iron.
It’s all in lovely chestnut shades of brown and possibly one of my favourite colours to date. Unfortunately, black walnuts are not the easiest to forage around here so I might have to wait until I am back in Hawarden again next year.
I got to wear my new fig dyed socks today and any day that starts with new socks is an excellent day!
This weekend I have a crafternoon planned with a small neighbour, some more dyeing and probably some more winding of mini skeins before I run out.
The slow cooker got a thorough wash and is now filled with gently cooking magnolia bark which has the most amazing ginger smell. We are lucky enough to have a large old magnolia tree in the back garden. It tends to only get the lightest of prunes normally but there was a branch overhanging the path to the shed which was so low the Gardener had to basically bend double to get through. So a little pruning was needed to make the shed more accessible and as a bonus, I got some magnolia bark to dye with.
I’m not expecting amazing colours from it, it’s highly likely to be another beige dye, but it’s always fun experimenting.
